Welcome to 8 Around the World.
Please join us in thinking about, meditating on or praying for peace, for non-violent solutions to all disputes and for a shift to true cooperation throughout the world.
Each day at 8h and 20h (8am & 8pm) we stop and take five minutes to join with others in our time zone and those a half world away, to add our gentle and powerful thoughts to help shift away from the forces that disrupt cooperation and instead promote peaceful interaction around the planet.
This is all we ask. No money. No work.
We ask that you begin by looking to yourself first. Let go of any anger (at yourself or others) or fear within you. Fear is often the greatest fuel of violence in the world. Then look for any unforgiveness or prejudice resting there and release it. Imagine those around you living peacefully too. Include your family and friends, then your community, your town, your country and then the whole world.
If you can’t take the time to do the entire five (or even ten if you choose) minutes that is timed with others around the world, then join for as long as you can. Even ten focused seconds joins you to the whole.
The eight o’clock set time is designed to have the beginning of every hour create a band of connected thought encircle the globe for that five minutes. The band switches hour by hour until at the end of the twenty-four hours, all have had the chance to join twice. If your life allows you to be awake during both of the eight o’clock times, feel free to join in on either or both.
Eventually, this site will allow you to see the time zone delineations and know what other places participate along with you, to add your town to a list of locations taking part in 8 Around the World, to blog about events that show conflicts being resolved without violence, and to link up with focus partners from other locations in the world through photo exchanges. But for now…
Please unite in this simple act and spread the word to others anywhere, even in the remotest parts of the world, to add their thoughts of peace as well.
